I have dozens of live taken pictures for you, some first technical information and the price.
The new Rolex Cosmograph Daytona looks good. The ceramic bezel has in fact totally changed the appearance of this chronograph. The case still measures 40 mm and it is still waterproof up to 100 meters…
What dramatically improved is the quality of the movement. Now it is regulated to -2/+2 seconds a day. The power reserve is 72 hours. It is still a 4 Hz caliber and it has no silicon balance spring, but the Rolex-own Parachrom balance-spring. And Rolex now is testing the entire watch in a dedicated procedure to finally name it Superlative Chronometer.
As in the past there are two options for the steel version: one with a white and one with a black dial. Both Rolex Cosmograph Daytona chronographs are going to be sold for 11.800 CHF including tax each in Switzerland.
Now please enjoy my pictures. They are taken with a macro lens, so please enlarge them to see the small differences …

… I´m not a fan of Rolex but this one has caught me. But 42 mm diameter would be better.
Nothing special. And the amount of text! Maybe Rolex should add the history of the brand on the dial.
Will there also be a daytona with steel bezel or have these now been discontinued?
As an owner of a 2015 Black SS daytona I personally think the move to more a sports watch with the ceramic bezel takes away from the dress watch quality of the Daytona. Perfer mine and reckon heaps for other Daytona owners won’t be sold on the ceramic bezel.
Hello,
Can anyone explain why the subdials (3h and 9h) are higher than the center of the movement?
Thanks!
The raised subdials were created when Rolex switched from the El Primero based movement (ref 4030) to its own in-house one (ref 4130) in 2000. The reasons they did this were to make it easier to tell which movement was in the watch and they also reckoned it would make it harder for counterfeiters to copy.
Thank you for the answer.
Both the versions are stunning along with the improved accuracy of +2/-2 seconds per day, I am certain, both the versions will be extremely popular among the watch lovers.
Enjoyed the XL-sized pictures immensely, thanks!
The white dial with black ceramic bezel is simply amazing. Just beautiful.
I wonder if it is 40mm or really 38.5mm like the previous model. But whatever the size, it’s really pretty awesome.
Dial is much too busy – all that text! However, the watch will become a new icon for Rolex I’m sure.
Hi Alex – Am enjoying your Baselworld reports! However I believe the movement in the new Daytona and its performance are unchanged from the last of the previous steel bezel version that also came with the Green Seal (introduced mid 2015). It would be good if you could get confirmation on this from Rolex (please) as it seems to be causing quite a bit of confusion on various sites & forums. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Is the diameter still only 40 mm?
