Discover the new Ingenieur Automatic Carbon Performance Ceramic and Ingenieur Dual Time. And I invite you to let pass in review the 2014 IWC Aquatimer watches by an appealing video.
IWC Ingenieur? Maybe now you ask yourself: Isn´t 2014 the year of the Aquatimer? Yes, you’re right, 2014 is the year of the Aquatimer. In fact IWC did present a punch of new diving watches.
Last year it was the year of the Ingenieur. I hope you have not forgotten this yet.
So what I will do now is present you two new Ingenieur watches and then I have a little surprise for you. To once again let pass in review the new 2014 Aquatimer watches I have asked Christian Knoop, IWC´s Creative Director, to present them to you.
The 2:50 minute’s video is on page 3. So guys be sure not to miss it!
When I saw this Ingenieur Automatic Carbon Performance Ceramic I thought that is a déjà vu. Already last year IWC presented the Ingenieur Automatic Carbon Performance and the IWC Ingenieur Automatic AMG Black Series Ceramic.
So what´s new? In fact only a few details changed, I have put all the necessary pictures online so you can see and discover the differences yourself.
These are the pictures from the last years 2013 Ingenieur models…
If we now mix the two 2013 ones we get the new 2014 one…
The 2014 Ingenieur Automatic Carbon Performance Ceramic is engineering with a carbon-fibre case and, as a new feature in this model, also has a mirror-finished ceramic bezel. The middle section of the case, which is held together by five screws, is manufactured according to the same principle as the core features of a racing car. The watch’s dial is also made of carbon fibre. For other parts of the case, IWC designers likewise took their inspiration from the materials used in motor racing. Ceramic for the bezel, screw heads, crown and crown protection, titanium for the screws and case-back ring, and rubber for the underside of the strap with its calf-skin inlay. Get this detail: The strap is sewn with green thread as an allusion to the stripes on the outer walls of the tyres fitted to the cars for racing in wet conditions. By no means I would have thought about the tires when just seeing the strap of that Ingenieur. The IWC-manufactured 80110-calibre movement is thanks to its integrated shock-absorption system one of the company’s most rugged and thoroughly tested movements and. Perfectly in keeping with the design is the rotor, which is shaped like the pistons found in a Formula One racing car. The Ingenieur Automatic Carbon Performance is available in a limited edition of 1,000.
>>> Please discover the Ingenieur Dual Time on page 2. This is my favourite Ingenieur now, since with its decond zonetime indication a really useful watch.
I like carbon for the dial, but using it for the case makes for an overly busy surface look. In that context the new variant with ceramic bezel looks cleaner than last year’s model, but best would still be the black ceramic ingenieur with a carbon dial !
Such a modern watch in terms of design and materials but with a flat hairspring and standard clucydur ballance wheel? So dissappointing!
I love IWC watches and thanks a lot for the nice report and lovely pictures along with the great video!
Simply loved it, keep it up!
In my opinion, IWC should do the Ingenieur 3228 again, but using a Faraday cage. This would by the perfect Ingenieur – clearly designed, not too big, equipped with an inhouse made movement an sold for an affordable price.
What ever IWC does in the moment, the “old” collectors do not like and the new buyers do. That’s not to easy to handle…
You’re right, Alexander, that’s truly a demanding issue. But companies should try to take up the challenge. They will benefit in the long term. Breitling, for example, has acted in this way. Take a look at the “new” Navitimer.
Completely agree with you
I like them all! Thanks, Alexander! IWC is a cool brand not German but pretty close.
In my eyes IWC could even be more “German”. I very much like clear and reduced design…
Agreed, the dual time is the best of the “new” Ingenieurs. Is the movement contained within a Faraday Cage? I don’t consider it an Ingenieur unless it is…
I think Mr. Knoop should be fired for two terrible years, the Year of the Ingenieur and the Year of the Aquatimer. Terrible designs. I hope he doesn’t ruin the Portuguese, Portofino and Pilot lines too.
You’ll probably not approve this post I know, but really hope they get the message. Bring back the IWC we all love!

Dean why should I not approve your comment? I prefer to have active and also critical followers instead of a crowd of cowards … No worries you are always welcome to speak out out your opinion.
I like the current Ingenieurs but the new Aquatimers do not look that great in person. I thought that I would never say this, but they remind me of some basic Casio Edifice models!
