Anonimo Nautilo Nato Hands-on

The new Anonimo Nautilo Nato was recently announced by Anonimo and we had the opportunity to give them a try during an event in the southern part of France. We found our way to the Côte d’Azur for a sailing adventure and presentation of the new Anonimo Nautilo models. In a hotel nearby the harbor we gather up and after a short walk we get on board the SFS yacht. This thing is made for one thing only and doing that in the fastest way possible. Sailing!

Before we know it we are on open water and the watches are revealed to us. All of the Anonimo Nautilo Nato models are available for a look and feel session in an environment that fits the brand. Compared to watches that come on a steel bracelet it’s easier to change to various custom straps according to your liking. I realise it’s not for everyone but wearing my watches on a nato strap on a regular basis I like the combo.

Anonimo Nautilo Nato

With it’s 44 mm case the Anonimo isn’t one of the smallest watches around but it wears very comfortable on the wrist. What I especially like is the placement of the crown at 4 o’clock. I get quite some comments about wearing my watches on the right wrist. When I started wearing my first serious mechanical watches the crown protruded in my skin. This was the main reason to switch them to my other wrist. With the crown position of the Anonimo this is no longer an issue.

Each of the versions come in a bright colour combination throughout the entire watch. Details show on the dial, bezel and strap. Several details show the logo of the brand such as the colour coordinated seconds hand and the stylised hour markers at 12, 3 and 9 o’clock. The waytch is powered by a trustworthy Sellita SW200 movement that comes with a power reserve of 38 hours. All combined it’s an interesting choice at an affordable price around 2K euro.

Sailing experience

After spending an impressive day on a race spec sailing yacht we return back to the harbor. Having some sailing experience dating back to my youth this was something completely different. Being built to race, this boat is equipped with a mechanical keel which allows it to swivel at the bottom of the hull. At the captains control the weight can move left or right to give the boat the best possible position on the water. Combined with two wing shaped blades which are located more forward they can select the perfect setup for stability and speed. Demonstrating this at the push of a button the boats sailed at a 40 degree angle in seconds.
