Baselworld 2016: The Zenith novelties at a glance

Zenith Heritage Pilot Café Racer

Less is often more … Under the actual circumstances Zenith presented and showed a small new homogeneous collection. I can show you most of the timepieces today, but not the real highlight 2016 yet …

Let us together have a look at the new Zenith timepieces.

The manufacturer is in a period of strategic reorientation.

Next year I expect a firework of novelties and also a line-extensions of the in-house manufactured “El Primero” and “Elite” calibres.

After TAG Heuer Master of Ceremonies (MC) Jean-Claude Biver is now very much focusing on Zenith. Biver´s team is working with full commitment and MC Biver sets the pace.

I would call the 2016 collection a transition collection …

One more thing before I start: My personal Zenith highlight 2016 still is under strikt embargo, so I will not be able to present you this watch today. I have all the pictures and hard facts, but it is to early to share them with you.

Please discover the Zenith novelties on 8 pages now …

Zenith Heritage Pilot

The Heritage Pilot “Café Racer” is inspired by the “Café Racer” bikers movement born in England in the 1920s. The 45 mm-diameter aged steel case houses the automatic El Primero 4069 chronograph calibre.

The Heritage Pilot Café Racer already takes its place in the Heritage line composed of sleek, powerful watches. But there is one more ticking powerhouse to come later as mentioned above 🙂

One specific detail I want to point out is the oily nubuck rubber-lined wristband, fitted with a titanium pin buckle. The watch will be sold at around 7400 Swiss Francs starting in May…

The “Café Racer” bikers wanted a motorcycle that was both fast (up to 160km/h) and customised, literally enabling them to ride from café to café on the British motorways. They therefore stripped their bikes of anything they deemed superfluous and prepared the engine to reach maximum power. Their one-seaters with their low-slung handlebars took on a rough and ready, pared-down and utilitarian appearance.

The Rolling Stones watch is really ugly. I don’t want the same drink as the designer had…

Zenith Academy Christophe Colomb – Rolling Stones and Zenith Academy Tourbillon Georges Favre-Jacot are ultra-expensive and not meant for ordinary Zenith-lovers.

But others like Zenith El Primero Skeleton – 45 mm, Zenith El Primero 36,000 vph – 45 mm, Zenith Elite Chronograph Classic, Zenith Elite 6150, Zenith El Primero 36,000 vph Classic Car and last but not the least Zenith El Primero Chronomaster 1969 Tour Auto Edition Chronograph are simply fabulous, yet do not cost an arm and a leg, hence can be purchased by ordinary Zenith-lovers.

I am going to get at least one or two affordable Zeniths certainly, as I have been in love with Zenith for umpteen years.

Let’s hope Zenith transitions to something better as these leave me cold for the most part.

I await your final reveal. As far a the Rolling Stones homage gyro-Tourbillon goes my guess only a band member could afford it.
I am very pleased with my high beat Zenith.
FYI: I bought my first tourbillon for 1.000 USD an over-stock Android. It is a limited addition Android. Looks great, tungsten case, sapphire crystals, blue dial, movement finish workman-like and, yes, it keeps great time too.
