The Amvox2 Transponder now interacts with all Aston Martin cars. Its predecessors only locked and unlocked the DBS, DB9 and Rapide.
With the 2014 Jaeger-LeCoultre Amvox2 Transponder chronograph you can lock and unlock an Aston Martin and you can turn its headlights on. Aston Martin drivers can now activate and programme these functions for all models currently in production. The major difference between the 2014 version of this timepiece and the original 2006 model lies in its remote lock/unlock function controlling the doors of an Aston Martin. For the new 2014 Amvox2 Transponder, Jaeger-LeCoultre has integrated the remote lock/unlock function, which enables the wearer to control the doors of their Aston Martin within the watchcase.
Some may well recall that there were already certain Amvox watches equipped with this function and that is indeed so, since Jaeger-LeCoultre had already developed the concept for the Amvox DBS Transponder, Amvox2 DB9 Transponder and Amvox2 Rapide Transponder. However, these versions were thus named because they worked exclusively with the Aston Martin DBS, DB9 and Rapide cars.
The perfect interaction between watch and car is engineered via a micro-transmitter built into the double case-back of the Amvox2. The antenna of the system, positioned directly beneath the watch glass, is however clearly visible. It has been meticulously applied by thermal vapour deposition between 8 and 4 o’clock so as to ensure optimal communication with the Aston Martin as well as low energy consumption, thus saving battery power.
Unfortunately there´s still one little drawback: Even the new watch does not however entirely replace the key of the car, for while opening and closing can indeed be operated using the Jaeger-LeCoultre watch, the Keyless Access function serving to start the engine of an Aston Martin by pressing the engine stop/start button still requires the presence of the ignition key.
The Amvox2 Transponder could also handle the Keyless Access function; nonetheless Aston Martin does not want to share this technology with Jaeger-LeCoultre.
Once again: With the new 2014 Amvox2 Transponder, Aston Martin drivers can now activate and programme the above described functions for all models currently in production.
Two elegant and discreet sensors marked “Open” and “Close” have been applied by thermal vapour deposition beneath the watch glass, and a light touch is enough to lock or unlock the Aston Martin and light up the headlights.
Unlocking and locking an Aston Martin and the possibility to turn its headlights on only mirrors the high-tech feature of the watch.

I wonder if the watch comes with the car , probably not . It looks like a nice watch but I am not sure if this feature is a good thing . What if someone accidentally opens the car doors and especially on such an expensive car as this ?
Peter the watch does not come with the car, Ulrich Bez is not including a JLC with the sale of an Aston Martin. The car will only open if you are close to it and then after a short while close again automatically if you are not opening a door…
I quite frankly don’t see the need for this feature because a remote control probably comes with the car anyways, like it does with other cars.
A little off topic but you mentioned that it was quite tiring driving back home from the watch show in Switzerland . I was wondering why you chose to drive instead of going by train ?
Peter, very easy to answer: I get so much catalogues and press material in Basel that I need a car to bring all this stuff home afterwards. Would be impossible to carry all that including your personal items.
