Hublot Big Bang Unico Magic Sapphire
Hublot Big Bang Unico Magic Sapphire

Hublot always allows a first look at its novelties to privileged members of the watch-press long before Baselworld starts. Be part of the “club” and discover my pictures (39!) and all you need to know about the new ones …

You may like or not like what Hublot does. There are only a few brands polarizing as much as Hublot does. I have to admit I like what the brand does and did. Hublot is consequently different! Hublot cleverly fills niches and could therefore create its own particular style. Hublot is the brand that is chosen by serious and conservative watch-collectors when they look for a “crazy” wristwatch. Hublot is seen as a real high end luxury-brand and therefore accepted to play the role the brand plays. For many others Hublot is simply there expression of lifestyle and therefore their preferred way to wear a mechanical wristwatch. It is a known fact that tastes are different! I can hear some of you arguing already… Hey guys please stop! Hublot was and is always ahead of time, Hublot offers more Swiss Made than many other brands in the same price level. You may like or not like what Hublot does, but this brand today is highly successful and desired!

I invite you to have a look at the first 2017 novelties of Hublot on the following six pages. The pictures I took with my macro lens (click on them to enlarge) should give you a good impression what you may expect from Hublot this year.

Have fun and let me know what you think!

Hublot Big Bang Unico GMT

The two push-buttons are not the same as those seen on a chronograph. Each press of the push-button at “2 o’clock” moves the time forward by one hour; the one at “4 o’clock” moves it back. A safety device prevents simultaneous activation of the two push-buttons. GMT time (local time) is set independently of the other hands by pressing one of the push-buttons; the gears for the minutes and seconds are not driven. This means it is not necessary to synchronise all of the hands with every change in time zone.

The Big Bang Unico GMT is available in a titanium or carbon fibre 45 mm /15,85 mm case, on a structured, ribbed black and blue natural rubber strap. Both versions are equipped with the “One Click” interchangeable strap system. The Hublot-UNICO movement has been redesigned to transform it into a calibre with an integrated GMT function. The HUB1251 movement consists of 358 components, its balance wheel oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 A/h, the watch has a 72-hour power reserve.

19.900 USD / 19.600 EUR for the titanium version

23.100 USD / 22.700 EUR for the carbon fibre version

I like GMT watches and for once i like their concept. It looks not too bulky. Also for the first time I noticed this bracelet change mechanism. Apple watch have something similar and actually that is the only thing I like on the Apple watch. Wondering why other companies did not come out with something similar. Especially Omega or the rest of the Swatch Group.

Surely no-one buys these things. It looks like the kind of thing you get for £2.99p from China from ebay.

I like GMT watches with 12 hour bidirectional bezels. I also like lightweight materials. But I can’t wear rubber straps. They drag hairs and promote sweat. I wish these watches had lugs and springbars, which allow a wider choice of straps.
