Watchstars Award Winners 2015/2016 – almost 80 journalists and watch experts voted the worlds best timepieces in five categories

Watchstars Awards

In my eyes Watchstars is probably the most representative watch award on earth. It is hard to top (by whomsoever!) the opinion of almost 80 international journalists …

It really is impressing to see the entire list of colleagues, among them many watch experts, well-known print-journalists, bloggers, social media guys and influential fashion journalists, who participated in the jury this year.

In my eyes Watchstars is probably the most representative watch award on earth.

It is hard to top (by whomsoever!) the opinion of almost 80 international journalists …

The expert panel, which consists of almost 80 international watch experts, voted once again. The watches were nominated in five categories primarily. Following this, the experts voted their favorites out of the 10 most commonly nominated watches in each category.

Watchstars Award Winners 2015-2016

The Omega Globemaster was ahead in the category “Classic Stars”. This watch model, which was launched in 2015, succeeded to establish itself against its competitors with its Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement and METAS certificate.

Watches with additional function(s) other than date and/or power reserve indicator are the basic requirements to be qualified in the category “Technical Stars”. The Zeitwerk minute repeater from
A. Lange & Söhne received most votes in this category with its technical movements: jumping hours and minutes combined with a decimal minute repeater.

The MB&F Legacy Machine 101 convinced the jury with its refreshing design and its in-house developed movement. One of many reasons for being a “Design Star” favorite is the extremely domed sapphire crystal which enable a perfect view on the mechanical spectacle.

As a timeless classic, the Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch has been selected. Its design, technical features and ‘Moon’ heritage are ingredients for making it a lifetime star. With the victory in the category “Stars for a Lifetime”, Omega wins its second Watchstars award 2015  / 2016.

The jury is very weighed toward Germany. Of the 47 jurists, 25 are from Germany (yes, I am counting Zwettler as a German).

Curious. However, I was not aware of this award selections and I enjoyed exploring their website.

    Thank you.

I will vote for one the MB&F 101. I really enjoy their quirky sense of design and their enjoyment of creating unusual machines and watches.

I can’t take issue with any of the award winners. But my votes would have gone to:

New Star: the Tudor Pelagos – Really good looking and manufacture movement to boot

Stars for a Lifetime: I would go with a Rolex Submariner. Perhaps it already got the award in a previous year, but is there any more classic star in the watch world?

Design Star: Perhaps the Urwerk 210 – I’ve always loved their watches, not that I could ever afford one

Technical star: can anything rival the Vacheron Constatin Ref. 57260? (I know, there’s only one but still…)

Classic Star: Patek Phillip Gondolo Ref. 5124G-011 – This shape of Gondolo has been around for years and is a personal favorite while this reference was launched this year. Maybe ifd I liquidate all my stock, get the mortgage paid off…. ‘-)

WatchStar Juries have chosen truly fine watches, yet my selection would have been different.

For Classic Stars I would have chosen 2 watches: Omega Globemaster and Rolex Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master.

For Technical Star I would choose: Breguet Tradition 7087.

My Design Star would be: Richard Mille Tourbillon Fleur RM 19-02.

I would select 2 watches for Stars for a Lifetime: Zenith 410 and IWC Portugieser Automatic.

Lastly I would select 2 watches as New Star: TAG Heuer Monaco V4 Tourbillon and Arnold & Son Constant Force Tourbillon.

I know that you are supposed to choose just one watch in each category, yet I chose 2 watches in 3 of the categories.

Well what do you think of my selection?
